As Europe witnesses a return of 90s culture in late 2024, AI image creation begins to rise worldwide. Along with this tool, largely based on visual input from the United States—come specific viewing habits. Trained on photoshopped images, advertising, and adult content, the outputs of these machines helped create a fashion editorial with a dark, uncanny twist.
Using AI image generators and Photoshop to adjust the early weirdness of these tools to a viewable degree, a prompt generator was developed. This generator fed the machines with fashion combinations, photographic details, and the key element of a woman holding or eating a lemon.
The lemon itself needs no explanation. It is a symbol universally understood within the context of these images. Much like the visual language of Renaissance paintings, contemporary visual communication relies on shared references, only now through the memefication of context.
